PAOLO DI PAOLO
Last year I was invited to go to Rome Film Festival to the first screening of thefilm about Paolo di Paolo."The treasure of his youth" was directed by Bruce Webber. Paolo di Paolo was a stills photographer who between 1954 and 1968 documented La Dolce Vita and had intimately photographed legends like Pierpolao Pasolini, Marcello Mastrolani, Anna Magnani to name a few.
In 1966 he abandoned his camera and, at forty-one years old, returned to his philosophical studies and the publishing world. His dazzling archive and story has only recently come to light and the film is a brilliant watch.
I took a small film camera to catch a few moments at the premiere.Hand printing by Pete Guest and top loading archival box by Cat Taylor.
